Differential Mobility Analyzer (DMA)

fig5A DMA sizes nanoparticles by their mobility in an electric field. Negatively charged particles are attracted by a positive electrode and for a given voltage, only particles of a certain mobility pass through the DMA via an exit slit in the positive electrode. These particles are then counted by a CPC or FCE. By stepping through the voltage from 10,000V to 5V a particle size distribution is obtained. The DMA can also be used to generate monodisperse aerosols if operated with a fixed voltage.

GRIMM DMAs feature the Vienna-Type design (Reischl et al. 1997, Winkelmayr et al. 1990), well known for highest resolution and lowest diffusional losses even for small particles. Vienna-Type DMA offers flexible design with two electrodes of different length to accommodate a variety of experimental needs.

Faraday Cup Electrometer (FCE)

fig2Nanoparticles are collected on a filter in a Faraday Cup. The particles deposit their charge on the filter and initiate a small current that is converted to a voltage using a high impedance resistor. This is an absolute and fast method to detect nanoparticles. - No consumables are necessary

Wide Range Aerosol Spectrometer (WRAS)

- SMPS+C upgraded with optical particle counter (OPC 1.107, 1.107, 1.109 or 1.190), all portable (indoor measurement)
- WRAS provide highly accurate measurements for nano particles as small as 4.5 nm up to 32µm over a wide concentration range of up to 107 particles/ccm
- 19" rack versions of CPC, SMPS+C, and WRAS are also available for stationary installations, typically used in environmental networks, atmospheric monitoring stations, and automotive test riggs




Fast Aerosol Particle Emission Spectrometer (FAPES)

Model 5.600, the system includes:
- 10 DMA/FCE
- complete flow system
- sample flow recovery/conditioning system
- sampling and heated dilution system (<500 º C; 0.1 to 1.3 bar) - Software - FAPES software is user friendly but full-featured. It includes a complete data inversion algorithm and allows data to be displayed and exported in many different ways to meet a variety of needs. The software collects data with 10x per second and can display averaged data with 0.5 to 60 seconds averages.

The FAPES (#5.600) covers a wide range from standard test measurements to fundamental research from high concentrations in engine exhaust to normal ennvironmental conditions, from dynamic behaviour in combustion processes to dynamic processes during nucleation events even in different temperatures, pressure levels or altitudes.
